Living Rivers Festival On Sunday May 5, 2002 • Noon to 5 pm Don Valley Brick Works on Bayview, south of Pottery Road Host Sponsor: Culture Division, City of Toronto Imagination Garden
River Transformation Murals Toronto Artists for a Better World will be creating with the public at the Living Rivers: Don Festival two murals that will then be carried in the closing procession of the event. One of these murals will represent images of the Don Rivers polluted and hurting, while the other will show the river clean and flourishing with life. The artists will staple the canvas to wooden frames, outline the murals and guide people in mixing colours and filling in the outlines with colour. Don Wildlife Masks Artist Pamela Schuller will be working with the public to create masks out of simple materials that can then be worn in our closing procession. The masks will represent wildlife indigenous to the wetlands area surrounding the Brick Works, as well as along the Don River watershed. Earth Sound Instrument Making Musician Nuno Christo will create an interactive and fascinating activity to transform everyday materials into objects capable of producing sound. From cardstock to tin cans there's a lot of discarded stuff that urges to be recycled. Making musical instruments could be a way of reusing some of the packaging that seems to keep growing in our kitchens. Explore the whistle of a film canister or the melody of a water hose, realize that there is a universe of sound. Eco-Flags This interactive art activity coordinated by Nicole Crellin will create flags based on environmental themes to be painted by the public and used during the procession. The flags will then be used to decorate the closing ceremony stage. |
