| Clean Up The Don |
|
This year's Clean Up The Don Campaign (2002) involved 8 stewardship groups in 15 locations from the Oak Ridges Moraine to Lake Ontario. Despite several bad weather days, over 1,100 volunteers planted 3,000 trees and shrubs, and pulled out 115 bags of garbage from creeks, ravines, and streams. In addition, residents learned about their watershed by participating in 5 guided "Lost River Walks". Stewardship groups welcomed the public with barbeques, a mini-environmental festival and generous hospitality. Some groups invited contributions from local businesses and used the event as an opportunity for environmental education and community greening. The Clean Up The Don Campaign helps engage citizens in eco-action local to where they live and strengthens the organizational capacity of our stewardship group partners. Well done to all involved! Don restoration activities take place year-round -- check out our interactive map to connect with the group nearest you! |
