Congratulations to Water Watchers!
After a year of phoning, faxing, meeting and writing, the City has heard the concerns of residents across Toronto.
The City has abandoned their plan to create an arms-length Water Board dominated by political appointees and empowered to pursue privatization.
Instead, the City has adopted the proposal put forward by the City's Water Advocate, Councillor Irene Jones. The new plan creates a committee of Council that will oversee water and wastewater issues. The Committee will be empowered to accelerate investment in infrastructure and get moving on renewing our water system. The Water and Waste Water Division at City Hall will remain part of the City staff.
A Kyoto Solution By advancing his phase-out date for Ontario’s coal-fired power plants from 2015 to 2010, Premier Eves could obtain 50% of the greenhouse gas emission reductions the entire province needs to achieve compliance with its Kyoto target for 2010.
Ontario also has smog, acid rain and mercury (a potent nerve toxin) emission reduction targets for 2010. A coal phase-out by 2010 would also deliver 38% to 112% of the emission reductions the entire province needs to meet these targets.

 This fact sheet complete the worksheet No. 7 Manual of agro-environmental plan (EAP). It outlines possible measures to correct aspects of your operation which is likely to harm the environment. In most cases, before implementing a measure, you need to learn more details, please consult the papers listed in the card and a technical adviser OMAFRA specialist agro-environmental plans (EAP). All options are classed as remedial measures; compensatory factors; surveillance. Corrective measures for dealing with problems found on your operation and improve the rating to (3 or even 4). The compensatory factors are alternatives that will adequately address the concerns, but will not change the notes in the EFP work. Monitoring is only under specific circumstances and in accordance with the methods described in this form. At the request of the Farm Environmental Coalition of Ontario, comprising the Federation of Agriculture Ontario, the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario, AGCare and Ontario Farm Animal Council, the following persons participated in the preparation the fact sheet No. 7: OMAFRA = Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ontario MOE = MOE MOHLTC = Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care MMAH = Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Quantity of wastewater Situation - problem: 7-1 Efficient water By consuming less water in the house, it decreases the amount of wastewater that the plant must treat septic. It follows several vantages: lengthening the life of the installation, less frequent emptying of the pit and lower risk of contamination of surface and groundwater. Without forgetting that reduces pumping water into the wells and the energy bill. Quality of wastewater The rejection of solid waste in the sewage network, especially when using a shredder waste under the kitchen sink, greatly increases the burden on solids sent in the septic installation. Illustrate the system performance BIONEST advanced secondary treatment, sampling an actual installation over a period of twelve months has been made. The installation has been studied wastewater from two units of two bedrooms each. The study included analysis of several parameters whose DBO5C and MES, sixteen samples taken from the tributary and the effluent. The effluent obtained with the system features physicochemical remarkable: less than 4.4 mg / L in DBO5C and less than 3.5 mg / L for MES, while the average content of fecal coli form east of 1 670 UFC/100mL. These results represent average yields disposal of 98%, 96% and 99% for DBO5C, MES and fecal coli form, respectively. Other parameters such as COD, turbidity and total nitrogen have also presented a significant decrease. During sampling, flow rates and charges at the entrance were higher than normal conditions, but these conditions have shown that the system BIONEST can easily meet all standards of rejection, even when surcharges. It has been demonstrated that the system of sewage treatment BIONEST rejects effluent quality far exceeds the requirements of Regulation Q-2r.8. Concentrations of DBO5C MES and the effluent was also 3 to 4 times lower than those required. Concentrations of fecal coli form were, however, 30 times lower than required.  In a context where the contamination of water has become an important issue, Bionest Technologies Inc. has developed a system for treating advanced secondary offering outstanding performance for the treatment of domestic sewage.  System worm gear City of Alma The city of Alma has a system of worm gear to treat its sewage. It has long been a break-in period to allow the sand to separate sewage.Sewage is transported in ponds aerated and treated once discharged into the river Early Discharge. The introduction of the system vis endless amounts to $ 1 400 000. Initially, construction costs ponds were valued at $ 18 000 000, now they total $ 41 400 000. They are divided into the following proportions: 90% funded by the Government of Quebec (37 260 $ 000) and 10% funded by City of Alma (4 140 00 $). System aerated ponds St-Bruno Wastewater from the municipality of Saint-Bruno and two large industries were dumped into the river Bédard. The work was done at a cost of $ 2 000 000, construction was originally scheduled for 1 500 000 $ therefore with a surplus of $ 500 000 compared to the project starting in order to include private industries. |
